Supporting our Students and Families 

ELL Parent Meeting

  • Conducted meetings with parents 

  • Informed parents/guardians of their child’s ELL status and English  language progression

  • Provided guidance for parent involvement in their child’s education

  • Provided Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese language interpretation for Chinese speaking parents

 

ENL After-School / Lexia and Enrichment

Lexia- students leveled up in English language acquisition through Word Study, Grammar, and Reading Comprehension

  • Guided students in using Lexia PowerUp

  • Provided explicit instruction for students based on Lexia data 

Enrichment- social emotional learning (SEL) through play and the Arts.  

- Origami Art Folding

  • Guided and supervised students in Enrichment

 

GenConnect Meetings and Facilitator Trainings (Build stronger connections between students and their families)

Weekly Cafeteria/Bleeker Cafe Support

  • Ensure student safety in the lunchroom

  • Ensure students have a positive lunch period

Welcome Students Fall 2025- First Two Days of School 

  • Assisted students and families with resource/guidance ensuring a positive first two days experience at J.H.S 185 

    • Provided interpretations for students and families who needed Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese language  

    • Addressed questions from students and their families 

    • Guided students in navigating in and around the school building 

Winter Concert 2025

  • Supported students before, during, and after the Winter Concert 

  • Assisted in creating a welcoming atmosphere by strategically placing adornments for the concert

  • Greeted and guided parents and community members

Supporting our Students and Families 

After-School AIS/ENL program (Fall 2024)

  • Guided students in using Lexia PowerUp

  • Pulled individual students for one-on-one instruction based on Lexia progress

  • Supervised and manage students in program

 

Annual ELL Meetings (after-school hours - Fall 2024)

  • Met with parents who requested for a In-Person meeting

  • Informed parents of their child’s ELL status and how to support their child in meeting goals

 

Parent/Community Outreach:

  • Collaborated with ENL colleague in creating outreach letters to parents of ELLs regarding our Annual meetings and information about NYSESLAT 

Saturday Prep and Play Program ( March, April, May 2025)

  • Supported ELLs in English language acquisition in alignment to state exams

  • Guided and engaged Saturday Prep & Play students in their program
